Exploring and Eating

We decided to take it easy on Friday after our big walk, thinking we would mostly rest but ended up walking about 8 miles around Auckland. This is a fun city to explore and we are especially enjoying the waterfront where we found some delicious food. The weather is very unusual, according to a local, and in the middle of a beautiful sunny day, there was a giant rainstorm. Fortunately we were under cover and we waited for it to pass before heading out.

After lunch we walked to the “pocket park” where they had 5 or 6 giant see saws. Each one made a different sound as you were playing on it…so fun.

Then we wandered around some more in search of a bakery/coffee shop which we didn’t find, but we did find two like minded ladies.

It was a good day and we decided to go to this giant food hall for dinner where we enjoyed some oysters and then some middle eastern food before heading back to actually rest.

SATURDAY in Auckland

We are staying really close to the Sky Tower, which is like the Space Needle - the place where we enjoyed the New Year’s fireworks - and so we decided to have lunch there and do a bit of gambling in the adjacent Casino. The lunch was super delicious and we got to have a 365 degree view of Auckland as the restaurant rotates. It takes an hour to make a full rotation and we were right next to the window - so much fun! Here are some pics from lunch. The first one is taken from our balcony with the Sky Tower behind us.

We did see someone walking above us and jumping off as well as these are activities that some people pay to do.

We concluded our day with a walk around the Auckland University campus and more delicious dessert with Flat White Coffees. Today we only walked 4 miles so we will have to step it up tomorrow!
