Geothermal Park in Rotorua

We are continuing to enjoy our time in Rotorua, wandering through town and hiking in the forest. This is really a great place for families as there are so many fun things to do. We are pretty low key and are so happy with hiking, ice cream and flat whites.

There is a lot of geothermal activity around town - geysers, hot springs, mud pools, etc. There is a park close by that has a lot of small pools and a place to sit and soak your feet. The smell of the sulphur is really overwhelming at times and I realized that this was what I was smelling when we arrived in town at the bus station. It reminded me a bit of growing up in Camas when the wind was blowing the wrong way. Since we have new tattoos, we won’t be heading to the mud pools or hot springs :-)

Here are some pictures from the park

This pictures is from Lake Rotorua and it is amazing to me to see the birds swimming around in this part that has a lot of sulphur in it. They don’t seem to mind.
